One of the questions I hear most often is where did the name Ginger Kelly come from?
It is simply the combination of two of my favorite names. Kelly is my middle name (and secretly the one I prefer) and Ginger is a nickname often given to people of the flame haired variety. As a redhead I was granted many nicknames while growing up, some much less flattering than the slightly exotic 'Ginger' which I have claimed for my art name.
How do I create my illustrations?
I work in many mediums, including pencil, watercolor, digital painting and digital photo collage techniques. Many of the artworks in my portfolio are mixed media photo collages created using a mixture of my own photography, painting and royalty free stock images.
If you have never seen an artwork being created on a computer, you may think that it all happens with the click of a button... not so!
First, I start with an idea which I might sketch very quickly onto paper before transferring the sketch lines to my computer via a scanner. Sometimes I sketch directly into Photoshop using my graphics tablet then I start to add colour by painting with my graphics pen and using little snippets of photos to add texture and depth. The entire process may take a few hours or many weeks depending on how complex the piece becomes.
Some artworks start out as one thing and become something entirely different after a few days. One thing is for sure: When I get started on a new piece of work it is almost impossible to stay away from it until it is finished.
